Privacy policy
Last updated: September 23, 2026
The Happy Fryer ("we," "us," "our") operates this online store. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website, our checkout, and the emails we send. Our store runs on Shopify, which processes information on our behalf.
The short version: we collect only what we need to deliver your ebooks, support you and run our ads. We don't sell your information for money. We do use advertising tools (such as the Meta pixel), which some U.S. state laws treat as "sharing" — and you can opt out at any time (see Your privacy choices).
Who is responsible for your information
The Happy Fryer, Plaza de los Fueros 4, 31780 Bera, Navarra, Spain — email support@thehappyfryer.us. Because we are based in Spain, we also follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the information we handle.
What we collect
| Category | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers and contact details | Name, email address, billing address, IP address, order number | You, at checkout; your device |
| Commercial information | What you bought, when, how much you paid, refunds | Your orders |
| Payment information | Handled directly by Shopify and its payment processors. We never see or store your full card number. | You, at checkout |
| Internet and device activity | Browser and device type, pages viewed, products viewed, add-to-cart and purchase events, the ad you clicked to reach us | Cookies, pixels and similar technologies |
| General location | Country, state and city estimated from your IP address (not precise GPS location) | Your device |
| Communications | Emails you send us, your email marketing preferences | You |
We do not collect Social Security numbers, precise geolocation, health information, or other sensitive personal information, and we do not ask for it. Choosing a "high-protein" or other themed recipe book is not treated as health information.
How we use it
- To deliver your order — send your download links and order emails. (GDPR basis: performance of a contract.)
- To support you — answer questions, resend files, process refunds. (Contract.)
- To prevent fraud and keep the store secure. (Legitimate interests; legal obligation.)
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations. (Legal obligation.)
- To send marketing emails — only if you sign up or check the box at checkout. Every email has an unsubscribe link. (Consent.)
- To measure and improve our ads and website — see "Cookies, pixels and advertising" below. (Consent where required; otherwise legitimate interests, subject to your right to opt out.)
We do not use your information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not use it to profile you beyond ordinary ad measurement and audience building.
Cookies, pixels and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the site, and measure and improve our advertising.
- Strictly necessary (Shopify): cart, checkout, security and fraud prevention. These can't be switched off.
- Analytics (Shopify Analytics): anonymous or aggregated site statistics.
- Advertising (Meta pixel and Meta Conversions API): we advertise on Facebook and Instagram. The Meta pixel in your browser, and our server through Meta's Conversions API, send Meta events such as page views, add-to-cart and purchases, together with identifiers such as your IP address, browser information, cookie IDs and, for purchases, a hashed (scrambled) version of your email address, name and location. Meta uses this to tell us which ads work, to show our ads to people likely to be interested, and to show you our ads on its platforms. Meta's own use of this data is governed by the Meta Privacy Policy.
Under the laws of California and several other states, this kind of advertising can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or as "targeted advertising," and may be considered a "sale" under some state definitions even though no money changes hands. You can opt out as explained below.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop the checkout from working.
Your privacy choices (Do Not Sell or Share)
You can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information and of targeted advertising in any of these ways:
- Use the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the footer of our website, or the cookie banner, and turn off advertising cookies;
- Turn on the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser or extension — we treat it as a valid opt-out request for that browser; or
- Email support@thehappyfryer.us with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share."
When you opt out, our advertising tools stop sending your browsing activity to Meta for targeted advertising from that browser or, if you email us, for the email address you give us. Opting out does not stop order emails or affect your purchases.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We disclose it only to:
- Shopify — store hosting, checkout, order processing and file delivery;
- Payment processors (such as Shopify Payments, PayPal and card networks) — to take payments and issue refunds;
- Email and app providers that help us deliver your files, send emails and show post-purchase offers;
- Meta Platforms — for advertising measurement and targeting, as described above;
- Professional advisers and authorities — accountants, tax authorities, or courts and law enforcement when the law requires it; and
- A buyer or successor if our business is ever sold or reorganized.
In the past 12 months we have disclosed identifiers, commercial information, internet activity and general location to the service providers above for business purposes, and identifiers and internet activity to Meta for advertising.
Your rights as a U.S. resident
Depending on where you live — including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Iowa, Delaware, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island and other states with consumer privacy laws — you may have the right to:
- Know and access the personal information we hold about you, and get a portable copy;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your information, unless we must keep it (for example, tax records);
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and of targeted advertising;
- Not be discriminated against for using your rights — we will never charge you a different price or refuse service because you did.
We extend these rights to all our U.S. customers, wherever you live, whether or not your state's law technically applies to a business of our size.
How to make a request
Email support@thehappyfryer.us with the subject "Privacy request" and tell us what you'd like us to do. To protect you, we will verify your identity by matching the email address and order details we have on file. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that they are authorized to act for you. We respond within 45 days (and may extend once by another 45 days when reasonably necessary, telling you why).
Appeals: if we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision with the subject "Privacy appeal." We will answer within 60 days. If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state Attorney General.
California "Shine the Light": we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
If you are in the EU, UK or another country
You also have the rights to object to processing, to restrict it, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (www.aepd.es), or to the authority where you live.
Where your information is stored
We are based in Spain, and our providers (including Shopify and Meta) store and process data in the United States, Canada, the European Union and other countries. When we transfer information from the EU, we rely on the safeguards our providers use, such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Order and tax records: as long as required by tax and accounting law (generally up to 6 years).
- Support emails: up to 3 years after our last contact.
- Marketing list: until you unsubscribe.
- Cookies: for the periods set by each tool, typically up to 13 months.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including Shopify's secure, encrypted checkout, to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access. No online service is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affects you, we will notify you as required by law.
Children
Our store is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and we do not knowingly sell or share the information of anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page with its "Last updated" date. If we make a material change, we will post a notice on the site or email customers where appropriate.
